Remember, when we were younger, how we’d chew up anything we’re told as long as it sounds controversial and mind-blowing enough? For instance, in my country where an urban myth keeps children wrapping their fallen-out tooth in a piece of paper and throwing it onto the roof so it may grow back. Or, check this one out: when you have an itch on either of your palms, good fortune, especially money, is on its way. Wherever all these urban myths and legends spawned from, they succeeded in following most of us into adulthood.
However, it doesn’t stop at just urban myths. Even in showbiz, there are certain facts about famous people which has been told, retold and probably oversold to the extent that details have been added to spice them up, making the stories less plausible. A notable example is how people believe Jennifer Lopez’s famous booty is insured for a billion dollars or Mark Zuckerberg is a reptilian disguised as a tech genius waiting for the right time to dominate the world. Ha-ha.
Here are three famous people we were made to believe were siblings.
Jean Claude Van Damme is an actor and Martial artist popularly known for his roles in Universal Soldier and the myth. Till I was twenty-two, I believed he has a wrestler brother, Rob Van Damme. Despite the fact that they’re both Belgians, the two are not related. I really wanted to believe they were cousins at least, if not twin brothers. However, they are not related. Rob Van Dam’s real name is Robert Szatkowsky and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s real name is Jean-Claude Van Damme. The name “Rob Van Dam” was given to him, Szatkowsky, in 1991 by Ron Slinker, a promoter in Florida, possibly because of his martial arts experience and his resemblance to actor Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Often referred to as “The brothers of destruction,” the Undertaker and Kane succeeded in bringing terror to audiences and viewers of professional wrestling in the 90s. And, a legend maintains that Kane and the Undertaker are brothers in real life. This is not true either. They’ve been portrayed as half-brothers in various wrestling storylines, but they’re not related in any way.
We’re going to take a little detour from the WWE scene into Hollywood music/movie now. New girl Zoey Deschanel bears a very uncanny resemblance to music pop star, Katy Perry. Some of their fans may be shocked to discover that they’re in no way related. I guess both their dads may have some explaining to do.
