I am sure many are wondering “What did Mummy Zee do”? Some are even more confused, “Who is Mum Zee or Debbie”. Well, you are not alone.
Mum Zee, Mummy Zee or Debbie, full name Deborah Adebisi is a married housewife who took the internet by storm. She turned her life and the life of her family around with one tweet.
“I’ve always been too lazy to wake up and get his lunch ready. But the day he told me a colleague brought two spoons so he’ll eat with her, was the day I set my alarm for 4:50 am.” – @Debbie_OA (Mum Zee).
This tweet caused a ripple effect that led to making Debbie a Millionaire in under 48 hours.
But, why?
Twitter Nigerian has been plagued with Gender Wars for years. The constant battle between Twitter feminists and alpha males have created a divide between the genders. While one aims to dismantle patriarchy, the other hopes to uphold it.
Twitter feminists have been accused of being bitter single women who only celebrate divorces while condemning wives who cater to the needs of their husbands. As a result of the divide, Debbie’s tweet received an alleged myriad of slurs from feminists who felt she was enslaved by her husband.
The alleged hurled insults by Twitter feminists frustrated the Alpha Males who have long praised the traditional woman. Although the definition of a ‘traditional woman’ seems to change from person to person, the vast majority agree that it means a submissive woman.
They all agreed Debbie is a submissive wife. When they discovered that she was a mom of a four-year-old daughter and still pregnant yet made food for her husband at 4:50 am, their love for her swelled. They went sleuthing through old tweets which uncovered that she has always been tweeting highly about her husband.
They dubbed her the ideal woman and decided to reward her with gifts. These gifts were items she had initially tweeted about lackadaisically.
Soon, her account started raining money. While many would have used the money for other things, Debbie opted to make purchases for the house. She bought a bedside fridge, microwave and other kitchen appliances to aid her cooking for her family.
When Debbie disclosed what she used their monetary donations for, the men were even more pleased. Items soon started coming along with more money.
After accumulating over 2 Million Naira, Kuda tweeted that they would be doubling her earnings. This is how Debbie became a National Treasure and a millionaire overnight.
More notable companies started showing support with their gifts. Indomie, Infinix, NNPC, Colgate and Lush Hair are just some of the companies that showed their support for Debbie. Even celebrities made it rain on her account. Teni joined the gang to bless her.
As of the time of this article, Debbie has received a land, furnished three-bedroom apartment, generator, Starlink internet Wi-Fi and much more. She is currently still receiving gifts of different kinds.
Debbie made it to the front page news of Punch which had mixed reviews. As much as many love this story, others are not in favour. Many men and women have attacked the newspaper for promoting domestic violence by making Debbie’s story front page news.’
“There is a pandemic of DV going on in this country and somehow this was headline-worthy??? Jehovah lord! Very dangerous and irresponsible thing to do. Big Sorry in advance to the women whose husbands will not understand this was a choice for Debbie.” – Mordsith @jupiter_knows
“Love this for her, but not sure this should be made mainstream. There are many patriarchal men out there who will take this as a reason to bully or harass their wives, using this as a standard or excuse to carry out their intentions. It is well guess.” – Samuel Akinlotan @SamAkinlotan
Whether you are in support of Debbie or not, one must agree that the story of Debbie elicits much fascination.
