MTN Unveils 5G Network in Nigeria

Shortly after Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced its plans to launch the 5G network connectivity In Nigeria, MTN unveils its 5G Network. The launch of 5G Network is in line with the Telecommunications Company plans to roll out 5G Networks in major cities around Nigeria before 2020. Earlier in the week, a trial was successfully carried out in South Africa. This achieved 20 Gigabyte per second (Gbps) with less than five minutes latency.

With this stride, MTN should be commended for setting the pace ahead of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The successful testing of the 5G network by MTN is among the biggest achievement any Telecommunications Company can boast of in Africa.

5G is better than 4G in a number of ways. 5G technology has 1,000 times the capacity, 100 times the connected device, 100 times the speed, 10 times reliability, and 10 times lower latency than 4G.

The roll out of 5G connection is currently done by MTN with Ericsson as the network equipment provider. The entire aim of this move is to enable the company provide better data services and for subscribers’ to enjoy better data experience.
