Morocco has joined the Super Falcons of Nigeria and South Africa to reached the last 16 on their Women’s World Cup debut after beating Colombia 1-0. The South Americans however progress as Group H winners to the next stage as well. The game for the two teams is a win win situation so they are both in the round of 16 while Colombia finished as the leaders of the group Morocco finished in the second place position.
Two time winners Germany failed to progressed to the next stage after they failed to beat South Korea. They were forced to a 1-1 draw by Asian side. Their failure to win means the Africans are into the knockout rounds as runners-up. Anissa Lahmari scored the only goal in the game via a rebound after captain Ghizlane Chebbak’s penalty was saved.
Morocco – who lost 6-0 to the Germans in their first game is likely to face France in Adelaide next. Colombia, who earned two wins in their first two matches and finish above Morocco on goal difference, will play Jamaica in Melbourne earlier on 8 August.
