Ismailia Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, shared his side of the story after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him wanted again.
The 43-year-old socialite took to his Instagram page to call out the Anti-graft agency for what he called “blackmail”.
Mompha, arrested again for conspiracy and money laundering on January 10, 2022 by the EFCC, was released on bail on March 28, 2022.
On Thursday, Mompha revealed that after he met bail, he travelled outside Nigeria to check on the welfare of his family and returned to Nigeria only for the EFCC to blackmail him into entering a plea bargain or inform the judge about the travel.
“I initially refused but after so much blackmail and intimidation by Rotimi Oyedepo, I succumbed and was told to pay N142 million naira to EFCC as compensation and also sign for a one-year imprisonment sentence which I was uncomfortable with and they thereafter reduced it to N40 million naira and one-year imprisonment,” he wrote.
Mompha added that he decided not to enter into a plea bargain, and they informed the judge who disregarded his every appearance in court and revoked his bail.
“All these facts especially the blackmail and intimidation by the EFCC made me come to the conclusion that I cannot get justice within this corrupt laden system as the EFCC was hell-bent on extorting money from me for a crime I never committed as well as the Judge who was ready to send me back to prison custody without any evidence or basis,” Mompha stated.
He also stated that he was declared wanted for cheap publicity, as the court only issued a bench warrant for his production in court on the next court sitting and was never involved in any illegal activity.
