Midweek games come with many expectations as the players will have to play in midweek and also at the weekend. For the England side, there are the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup which has Leicester City traveling to Burton Albion home. Manchester City will be hosting Southampton while Everton hosts Watford, Sunderland will be playing Oxford United to book semi-final slot.
In Spain, La Liga continues with Barcelona hosting Valladolid while Alaves hosts second-place Atletico Madrid. We will be giving a preview on the Midweek games and make predictions based on their current form and previous meetings.
Burton Albion vs Leicester City
The League one side which seats in the 13th position in the league table plays host to English Premiership Contender Leicester City. The home side has managed to keep a clean sheet in their last Carabao midweek games and they will host Leicester City at Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday evening. Burton Albion will be relying on their solid defense in the League Cup clash against The Foxes.
The Foxes has been in great form since the start of the season both in the Carabao Cup and the English Premier League. They have only lost to two matches in all their games this season, they thrashed Southhampton on Friday last 9-0 and favorites to win the Carabao Cup clash. The Brewers have been impressive at the back of late, but keeping a clean sheet against Brendan Rodgers’ troops is one thing we can’t bet on. A man to watch in the away team will be experienced attacker Jamie Vardy, who has been scoring for fun since the beginning of the season.
Everton vs Watford
Everton has not really been in form this season even after the introduction of new players to the team: Moist Kean, Andre Gomes, and Alex Iwobi. The team is still struggling with form as they have only managed to win two of their last eleven games. They lost to Brighton in their last game 3-2 and, so they will be looking to make amends when they host Watford at their Goodison Park in the Carabao Cup. The Toffees has been good in the midweek Carabao Cup tournament winning all their matches and are now in the quarter-finals.
They will be hosting Watford who has not been able to win any match in the EPL this season. The Hornets came close to winning their first league when they played Spurs at home but was denied by the referee even though the VAR was for them. Watford will be aiming to have revenge after their first loss to Everton at the beginning of the season. The two teams have been good in the Carabao Cup so betting on one particular team to win will be a hard choice we believe both teams will score.
Manchester City vs Southhampton
Manchester City will be looking to build on back-to-back wins over Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in the English Premier League when they host Southampton in the Carabao Cup. It is the quarter-finals and Pep Guardiola won’t want to gamble it for anything, he will be coming all out to win. The Citizen boss has all he needs to win the midweek game on Tuesday evening, to secure a semi-final ticket.
Since the Spaniard wants to win everything with the Citizens, we are positive that his men are going to stick to their attack style of play against the Saints. Kun Aguero who has not scored for a while now will be looking to register his name on the score sheet this evening as he returns to the starting XI.
The Saints were humiliated at home on Friday when they hosted Leicester City, they will be looking to make amend as they travel to the Etihad Stadium. Southampton has experienced all sorts of problems after the 9-0 loss to Leicester City. But we believe they cannot spoil the party for the home side when they travel to Etihad Stadium. Regardless of which players will be deployed in the Manchester City starting line-up, anything but a routine home win will not be a surprise. It is a sure home win and Over 2.5.
Oxford United vs Sunderland
The game between the two teams will be like a midweek League 0ne tie as both teams are rivals in their league with Oxford United above the visitors with three points. A place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals will be at stake this time for both League One teams at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Yellows have been in good form League One, they have won all their last three league fixtures, but beating the Black Cats is going to be hard.
The Black Cats are on a three-game losing run in their League One campaign, but only three points separate Oxford United from them in the league table. Because of this, we predict a close encounter is on the cards in the League Cup last 16. In their last meeting in a competitive match, the two teams played out a 1-1 draw. Oxford United is tough to beat at home, but we are positive that both teams will score when they play this evening.
Alaves vs Atletico Madrid
The Midweek games in the Spanish La Liga will be between Alaves hosting Atletico Madrid in their Estadio de Mendizorroza Stadium on Tuesday. The two teams have a clear cut different ambitions for the 2019/2020 La Liga season.
The hosts are eager to secure yet another La Liga survival, whereas the visitors aim to lift the trophy. Deportivo Alaves has not been in good form since the beginning of the season they have only won three games in the league. Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, has been impressive both in the local and the Champions League.
They will be looking to build on their last performance in a 2-0 win over Athletic Club, as they travel to Alaves. The away team is not a scoring side so we expect a low-scoring affair when they play. Alvaro Morata is one of the players to look at out for, he has found his goal-scoring touch of late. We predict that the former Chelsea and Juventus striker is going to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders.
Barcelona vs Real Valladolid
Barcelona, who were not in action at the weekend, will be playing in the midweek games before playing again at the weekend. They play host to Real Valladolid at their Camp Nou on Tuesday evening. The Catalan giants aim to regain top position in the La Liga standings and we predict that they will go all out to win. Ernesto Valverde’s men are on a six-game winning run in all competitions and it is no wonder they are considered hot favorites to pick up all three points from the midweek fixture.
As always, a man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Argentine superstar Leo Messi, who is eager to add more goals to his goal-scoring account. Real Valladolid, on the other hand, is tough to beat at home. But with their poor away record in the Spanish top flight, we do not believe that they are capable of making a miracle in Catalonia on Matchday 11.
