Middlesbrough put out a good fight to send English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur out of the English F.A Cup competition. Arsenal’s Nigerian British-born Folarin Balogun was in action for the Championship side who knocked Manchester United out beat Antonio Conte’s men in the extra time of the game.
Middlesbrough, who booked a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals following a shock 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur after extra-time. Balogun who is currently on loan from Arsenal helped Middlesbrough win the game, he was introduced late in the game with 15 minutes left to play. He went close five minutes after coming on but saw his effort go narrowly wide.
In the 83rd minute he got to the byline but his pass across goal was cut out by a Spurs player. After the full 90 minutes was played they headed into extra-time which saw Josh Coburn eventually putting Middlesbrough 1-0 ahead on 107th minute. It was the same Middlesbrough that eliminated Manchester United in the previous round via penalty shootout.
Reacting to the win, the championship side head coach Coburn said he is speechless. He also said: “In front of the Riverside Stadium, you cannot get better than that against a Premier League team. Just amazing. I can’t put it into words.” For the English Premier League side Tottenham, they have now lost seven of their 13 matches this year.
And in other FA Cup games, Manchester City beat Peterborough 2-0 away while Crystal Palace edged Stoke City 2-1.
