Matthijs de Ligt decides to sign for Juventus

Manchester United transfer target, Matthijs de Ligt, has decided to join Juventus this summer. Despite strong interest from four European giants. The Ajax captain has been approached by Europe’s leading clubs. With Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United all having registered a formal interest in the 19-year-old player.

Ajax has been resigned to the 19-year-old’s exit since April when coach Erik ten Hag declared. “There’s zero chance Matthijs is staying at Ajax. There are so many clubs interested in him.”

According to reports in both Italy and Holland, De Ligt is closing on a switch to Juventus. It is claimed that after failing to reach a deal with Barcelona in contract negotiations, not wanting to miss out on Champions League football at United, and similarly not wanting to move to Ligue 1 with PSG, the player has turned to the Italian champions.

De Ligt revealed earlier this month that a conversation with Cristiano Ronaldo after the Nations League Final had seen the Portuguese ask him about joining the Bianconeri. “He asked me to come to Juventus. I was a little shocked by that question, that’s why I laughed. I didn’t understand him at first.”

Juventus are willing to pay €70m on a five-year contract. This would render him Serie A’s second-highest earner, behind his soon to be new teammate Cristiano Ronaldo who earns €30m a year. The club has already recruited Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer from Arsenal. They are said to be close to announcing the signing of another United target, Adrien Rabiot, on a free transfer from PSG.
