Matchday: Super Eagles vs Guinea

The Super Eagles have been tasked to fly past the National Elephants in their game today. Nigeria will reach the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt if the Super Eagles win Guinea in their second match of the competition.

Marketing Director of the Nigerian Breweries, Emmanuel Oriakhi, commended the team for their hard-fought win in their first game. While tasking them to go for the top prize.

“We should break new ground by winning for the fourth time. The win in the opening match no doubt has brought shining moments to Nigerians and we expect the team to go all out in the remaining group phase games.”

“The team has seven matches leading to the winning of the competition. They have won one and are leading the group. Two more matches at the group stage and one in the Round of 16 puts the team within medal range if they scale the quarterfinals hurdle.”

While AFCON 2019 is Nigeria’s 18thappearance (today’s encounter will be their 88th match), Guinea is in the competition for the 13th time. Nigeria has won the title three times, finished in second place five times and picked up the bronze medals seven times. Guinea has only a runners-up place to show for their endeavor, back in 1976 when the tournament was held based on a league format.

In 14 previous matches between both countries, Nigeria has won four times, Guinea has equally won four times and have drawn six matches.
