Mass Death: Jigawa Adopts Verbal Autopsy

The Jigawa state government had adopted Verbal autopsy to determine the causes of the mass deaths in some towns in the state.

To carry out the autopsy, Governor Muhammadu Abubakar had constituted a five-member team which has representatives of the World Health Organisation, WHO.

Governor Abubakar, who expressed concerns over the mass deaths in the state, noted that his government had taken the issue seriously.

Also, Chairman of the committee and leader of the team dispached to Hadejia, Dr Mahammud Abubakar, confirmed that the team would conduct a verbal autopsy and find out the actual number of people that have died in the community.

One of the responsibilities of the committee was to uncover the causes for the recent increase in death rate in Hadejia and determine whether the deaths are related to COVID-19 or not.

According to Sani Kakabobi, the Special Assistant to the Local Council Chairman on Media, many residents were apprehensive over the mass deaths.

He said health experts and local government council officials had warned the residents to avoid sleeping indoors to allow ventilation.
