Mary Njoku: Qualifying for World Cup, Distraction for Nigeria

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has expressed her thoughts on the failure of Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Super Eagles lost the World Cup slot to their West African neighbours Ghana after a score draw in Abuja on Tuesday.

Ghana qualified on away goal rule with the first leg of the qualifier ending in a goalless draw in Kumasi.

Reacting to the loss, the Director-General of ROK studios expressed her excitement at the turnout of the result, stating that World Cup is a distraction the country does not need.

In a post on her Instagram page, Mary Njoku bemoaned the alarming insecurity in the country, noting that this needs more focus.

Mary Njoku wrote, “Thank God we didn’t qualify for the world cup. It would have been a distraction. We need to focus on the real problems in Nigeria and pressure the Govt to do something.

“An attack on a train! An attack at the airport. The insecurity in Nigeria is alarming. No more unnecessary distractions!!! This needs everyone’s attention.”
