Marcus Rashford finally puts an end to Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten run with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League. Jose Mourinho returns to Old Trafford after a year with his new troops, Tottenham with the hope of extending his unbeaten run. The game was one with lots of intense pressure but it ended well for the home team.
Mourinho was warningly received at Old Trafford as expected, Marcus Rashford was the first to find the back of the net. He found the back of the net in the first 10 minute of the game, placing the ball passed keeper Paulo Gazzaniga. Dele Alli gave the visitors an equalizer in the 39th minute of the game to level the scoreline with a brilliant goal. United had to go the dressing room sharing points with the away team although they had better chances.
On arrival into the second 45 minutes of the game, United were more inform than Jose Mourinho troops. Their pressure result to foul in the penalty box, after a long wait for a VAR check, it was award a penalty. Marcus Rashford did well to convert the penalty and sealed his brace for his team just four minutes into the second half.
Marcus Rashford has now scored 12 goals in both country and club this season of which 9 are for his club side. Since the departure of Robin van Persie in 2013, no United player has scored a hat-trick in the club and Marcus Rashford is sure aiming at. The English attacker has now scored nine goals so far in the English Premier League 2019/20 season.
Manchester United head coach used his playing day’s memory to get the crowd up for the game by emerging last from the tunnel. His entrance triggered a song in his honour and the start of what proved to be a lively atmosphere. In his pre-match press conference, Solskjaer had dismissed thoughts of him telling his players he would be sacked if they lose.
Right now the Norwegian is not under any pressure of losing his job as major Ex-United players has made it clear that the season won’t be easy. Last night’s performance was one which gives credence to Solskjaer’s belief genuine progress is being made. All the team needs now is to sign more players as the bench is not encouraging.
Speaking to media after the match he said: “You are always happy when you win. The boys are learning and improving all the time but tonight we were fantastic for long, long spells. “The three points are very important for us. We’ve had too many draws this season and given too many points away from winning positions. It’s a great lesson the last two games [Sheffield United and Aston Villa] and we came back in a great manner.
“We’ve started the rebuilding. We’ve made decisions that we had to and we’re looking to build this club to be better again and I can’t think short term when I’m trying to do that. When we turn the corner and win three or four games on the run, they will get that Manchester United feeling again.”
Should Sheffield United and Arsenal fails to win tonight it means United will maintain the 6th position quite some time. In order to stay there, Solskjaer will need the support of both the management and the fans as well behind him. Their next game is one every football lover will not want to miss, it will be Manchester derby and United are playing away.
“We were not alert, sleeping at the throw-in and we let Marcus Rashford attack. Once he is inside the box it’s more difficult to defend and he was clever and waited for the touch. In the first half they started more aggressive and more intense and deserved to be in front, maybe even 2-0, then we took control of the game.
When he plays from the left he is really dangerous and I knew that and gave the players the best information about it. His first goal is a typical Marcus Rashford kind of goal coming on the inside. Our boys knew that clearly.” But they failed to hold him or keep an eye on him.
