English Premier League side Manchester City have paid tribute to former academy player Jeremy Wisten, who has died at a very young aged, the player is just 17-years-old. Wisten is an African born in Malawi, he played for Manchester City’s youth teams after joining them way back in 2016. Manchester City defender and forward Aymeric Laporte and Raheem Sterling also paid tribute to the 17-year-old.
Manchester City through a statement released by them said: “The Manchester City family are saddened to learn of the passing of former academy player Jeremy Wisten.” The statement also said: “We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.”England international Sterling responded on Twitter with prayers and a rose emoji, while Laporte said: “Horrible news… RIP young man.”
Another post on Twitter, on behalf of Wisten’s former school, Wellington School in Timperley, Greater Manchester, read: “The thoughts and prayers of the Wellington community are with the family and friends of former student and Manchester City academy player Jeremy Wisten, who has tragically passed away. May he rest in peace.”
There has not been any confirmation on Jeremy Wisten’s cause of death, but several reports say the young player took his own life. It is believed that he was suffering from mental health issues and depression which led him to commit suicide. 21 hours ago a GoFundMe page has been set up to support Wisten’s family already.
