A man in Ekiti state, Taiwo Odetunde has been remanded by the court for the rape of 2 children in the state.

The 2 children aged 13 years and 14 years were raped on the 9th June 2020 by the defendant according to the prosecutor, Monica Ikebuilo who presented the case to the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Mrs Adefumike Anoma who is the chief magistrate of the court, ordered for the defendant to be remanded in a custodial centre as she rejected his plea.

According to Miss Monica Ikebuilo, the defendant had lured the 2 children to his home on that day with the promise of sewing nose masks for them. On getting to the house however, he locked the door and used a knife to threaten harm on the girls if the screamed. He then proceeded to rape the 2 children, taking turns among them. He was however caught by a neighbor who also raised alarm that led to him being seized.

The prosecutor after narrating the experience from the 2 children pointed out that the crime was against Section 2(2) of Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Amended Law, 2019 and asked that the defendant be remanded, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Office.

The case was adjourned to 27th July according to news reports.
