Man Bags 17 Years Imprisonment For Hacking Wife To Death

The Chief Magistrate of Nabweru Court in Wakiso District, Uganda, Ms Patricia Amoko has sentenced a man, Simon Shimanya to 17 years in prison for killing his wife over an alleged extra-marital affair.

Patricia during the sentencing held that the accused caused a severe head injury that led to the death of his wife.

The Judge said the degree of injury and the weapon used in killing the deceased in front of her children was threatening.

Simon Shimanya was sentenced after he confessed that he used an axe to kill his 32-year-old wife, who was a mother of three and a former nurse at International Hospital Kampala

It was gathered that the man was arrested on August 12 from Isingiro District and charged with manslaughter in connection with the August 1 violent murder of her wife at their home in Bbumbu.

The deceased, Violet Kakai.

The suspect, who appeared before the court via video conference explained that it was not his intention to kill his wife but it was anger resulting from provocation.

He revealed that the death of his wife followed a protracted fight and struggle which he said had resulted from the deceased’s extra-marital affair.

He said his late wife’s alleged lover, Robert Sebuufu had for a long time taken over his wife adding that the matter had been reported to different authorities to reconcile with his wife but in vain.

Meanwhile, the deceased alleged lover, Mr Sebuufu, is currently detained at Kasangati Police Station pending investigations.
