Malami to IPOB: Agitation for Kanu’s Release, Not an Option

Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, asserted that the agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is no solution for the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

He, however, pointed out that the Federal Government cannot pardon Kanu at the moment since no competent court of law has commenced with his conviction process.

The Attorney-General also hinted that, so far, there is no politicalsolution, for the time being, one that would guarantee the release of the proscribed leader of the separatist group.

Kanu Still in DSS Custody, Malami Reveals

Malami disclosed that Kanu is presently in the custody of the Department of State Service, DSS, is facing an amended 7-count charge bordering on treasonable felony and acts of terrorism.

He recalled that Justice Binta Nyako, the trial judge, pushed Kanu’s trial to January 19 and 20, 2022. Meanwhile, the trial session in court would be an emergency one and may create an avenue to obtain bail for the revolutionist.
