Maduka Okoye, to Solve the Problem of Goalkeeping for Super Eagle – Rohr

Maduka Okoye, Nigerian- German keeper who was recently called up to the U-23 squad has been declared by the Nigeria Head Coach Rohr as the perfect solution for the goalkeeping role. Rohr who was not satisfied with the poor performance of Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi at the just concluded African Cup of Nation. Hence the need to scout for a lasting solution.

In an interview with Sports Extra, Rohr stated that he would invite Fortuna Düsseldorf II of Germany Goal stopper Maduka Okoye to come and prove himself with the Nigeria Senior National team. Maduka Okoye, a 19 years old goalkeeper born in Germany to a Nigerian Father and German Mother who plies his goalkeeping trade with Fortuna Düsseldorf II at Germany.

Maduka who was initially called-up for the National U-23 for an Olympics qualifier earlier in the year but missed out because of club commitments. His desire to represent Nigeria Super Eagles over German where he was born, made it more easy for Rohr and his Technical crew to convince him to represent Nigeria.

In his reaction in an earlier interview with Channels tv, Maduka started that it’s a long team dream for him to play for his fatherland.  He also pointed out how he changed role from been a striker to become a goalkeeper in his first youth team, which he never regretted. He also said that he was motivated by his father who usually buys Nigeria Jersey for him when he was much younger, and ever since then, he has always dreamt of playing for his Fatherland and it is a huge honor for him to be called up to represent his Fatherland and fulfill his long term dream.

Do you think that Maduka Okoye is the rightful replacement for Super Eagles’ and Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme formal No1 goalkeeper, who was forced to quit the game due to Leukaemia in June 2017?
