M.I Abaga Mourns Murdered Singer, Hachalu Hundessa

The people of Ethiopia were thrown into mourning as one of it’s finest son, Hachalu Hundessa was murdered on the 29th of June, 2020 at the Gelan Condominiums area in Addis Ababa. This has made African top rapper, M.I Abaga to pay tribute to the Ethiopian musician.

Hachalu Hundessa was born in Ambo, Ethiopia and his family belong to the Oromo whom he lived for through his songs, activism, and philantropy.

He was arrested at age 17 in 2003 for taking part in protests and sentenced to prison before being imprisoned five years later. He made protest songs that unified the Oromo people, encouraging them to resist oppression.

Hundessa’s 2015 song ‘Maalan Jira’ (What Existence is Mine) became an anthem for protesters concerning the displacement of Oromo people from Addis Ababa and became one of the most viewed Oromo music.

His death caused a lot of unrest in the Ethiopian capital. Thousands of mourners gathered at the hospital where he died from gunshot injuries while the police arrested several suspects in connection with his murder.

His death has sparked heavy protest in the country which has lead to the deaths of at least 200 people.

M.I Abaga Pays Tribute to Hachalu Hundessa

Nigerian rapper, Jude Abaga aka M.I Abaga has joined other lovers of Hachalu Hundessa to pay tribute to the Ethiopian music legend.

Hundessa had reported receiving death threats, including in the week before his death, when he gave an interview to the Oromia Media Network. The 34-year-old’s death has been widely reported in the world.

M.I Abaga in his tribute wrote ”R.I.P Hachalu Hundessa. A musician, a leader, a truth speaker, a King” The ‘Action Film’ crooner continued ”Ethiopia our thoughts are with you in this time
