Italian top side Napoli has appointed former AS Roma and Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti as their new manager. The manager will now succeed Gennaro Gattuso who was feared hours after their failure to qualify to next season’s Uefa Champions League.
Gattuso left Napoli after finishing fifth in Serie A and failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League. He has however been given another appointment as another Italian club Fiorentina appointed hi as manager just a day after his sack.
Luciano Spalletti will now return to management for the first time since he was sacked by currently Italian champions Inter Milan in 2019 before appointing Antonio Conte who has also resigned from the club days ago. The club wrote on their website saying: “Welcome, Luciano – we’ll do great work together,” said Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis.
62-years-old Spalletti’s arrival brings a wealth of experience having managed 482 Serie A games and won two Italian Cups and a Super Cup with Roma, in addition to two Russian league titles and a cup win in his time at Zenit St Petersburg.
