Liverpool humiliated Manchester United and their under-pressure manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they hammered them 5-0 in the English Premier League Matchday 9 encounter. The which was to be a Super Sunday clash became a one-sided game the Klopp’s side dealt with United in front of their fans.
It was a day of acute embarrassment for United and Solskjaer, 10 years and one day since they lost 6-1 at home to Manchester City, Liverpool emphasized the vast gulf between the sides brutally. The visitor’s in-form striker Mohamed Salah was predictably their main tormentor as he grabbed a hat-trick in the game.
Solskjaer cut a dejected figure as he and his players faced the full fury of their fans after an insipid and disorganized display. The warning signs were posted for United after five minutes as Liverpool sliced them open through Salah’s fine pass to Naby Keita to score the first goal.
Diogo Jota then slid in at the back post unmarked to add a second from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s delivery eight minutes later. They were tearing United apart and the irresistible Salah got his first when thumped the ball into the roof of the net then beat David de Gea with a low effort.
Many Manchester United fans left at the break and Solskjaer’s response was to send Paul Pogba on for Mason Greenwood, but it did not help and became worse as the French man collected a straight red for a bad tackle on Keita.
Before then, Salah raced on to Jordan Henderson’s superb pass to complete his treble five minutes after the break. Walsh has now scored in ten successive Liverpool games, Ronaldo scored in the game but it was disallowed after a VAR check, the game ended 5-0 with United now in the eighth place position.
