Law & Order: SVU Makes History As It Was Renewed For Its 21st Season.

On 29th March 2019, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit made history as it was picked up for a 21st The show was created by Dick Wolf in September 1999. Having 453 episode’s, the NBC crime drama stars Mariska Hargitay as Lieutenant Olivia Benson.

When the show debuted in 1999, i’m certain Wolf didn’t expect to come this far. The series follows  detectives from a fictionalized New York City’s 16th precinct who investigate sexually-based offenses.

Just like the original Law & Order series, The episodes are often “ripped from the headlines” or loosely inspire by real life crimes.

Law & Order: SVU has been nominated for and won numerous awards, including the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Mariska Hargitay. Hargitay has won both a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for her lead performance. To this is the only Emmy to be received by a regular on any Law & Order series. Law & Order: SVU holds the record for currently being longest running scripted non-animated U.S. primetime TV series since it’s parent show Law & Order was cancelled on May 24, 2010 and is the fourth-longest running scripted U.S. primetime TV series on a major broadcast network. As of April 4, 2019, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has aired 453 original episodes.
