When the show debuted in 1999, i’m certain Wolf didn’t expect to come this far. The series follows detectives from a fictionalized New York City’s 16th precinct who investigate sexually-based offenses.
Just like the original Law & Order series, The episodes are often “ripped from the headlines” or loosely inspire by real life crimes.
Law & Order: SVU has been nominated for and won numerous awards, including the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Mariska Hargitay. Hargitay has won both a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for her lead performance. To this is the only Emmy to be received by a regular on any Law & Order series. Law & Order: SVU holds the record for currently being longest running scripted non-animated U.S. primetime TV series since it’s parent show Law & Order was cancelled on May 24, 2010 and is the fourth-longest running scripted U.S. primetime TV series on a major broadcast network.
