Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, is in a sober mood as a 100-level student of the institution slumped and later gave up the ghost. The undergraduate, identified as Moyosore Abdul Akinde, a student in the Department of Biochemistry was said to have slumped during an exercise session at the school’s sports complex. He then died on his way to the school’s Health Center.
Reacting to this sad news, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Michael Ologunde, ordered that the school’s sports center be closed down for three days in honor of the deceased. He described his death as another black episode in the history of the University. About a month ago, not less than three students of the institution were involved in an auto-crash that led to their death. These unfortunate incidences occurred at a time the institution was just resuming for academic activities and also aiming at an unbroken academic calendar. It is no news that the institution has been shut down for several months before this.
The VC in his words said ’our prayer at this time is for God to grant his parents and relatives the fortitude to bear the loss while stopping all these unfortunate incidences in LAUTECH’. According to the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), the cause of death is yet to be ascertained. He said that he died before he was rushed into the health center, so the doctors could not state the reason for his death. He also said that would have been possible if he made it to the health center, the doctors and nurses would have given the exact reason. Many people use the sports complex, the fact that it is been closed down in honor of the deceased is a good move by the VC, the School’s PRO concluded.
