The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso branch, has threatened the school management amidst an order to resume activities in the institution.
LAUTECH has on Thursday released a circular for the continuation of the first semester activities in the institution.
The circular mandated all staff and students resume academic activities by Monday, May 26, 2022.
The lecturers of the state-owned university were not impressed by the development, as they insist on not engaging in any academic activities if the school resumes on the said date.
The ASUU chairman, LAUTECH branch, Dr Biodun Olaniran in a statement issued on Friday stated that the lecturers are part of the ongoing strike by the union and would not do otherwise except if the national body of ASUU suspends the strike.
The statement by the chairman partly read, “Our union receives the memo from the university registrar calling for the resumption of academic activities for the first semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Session on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
“The Academic Staff Union of Universities, LAUTECH branch, wishes to dissociate itself from the said memo. The branch wishes to make it abundantly clear that ASUU-LAUTECH is part of the ongoing nationwide struggle of the union to reposition our public universities. LAUTECH has not, and cannot, back out of this patriotic struggle.”
The union further warned parents and students that academic activities would not start even if the students resumed as directed by the university management.
“We, therefore, urge the parents, guardians, students, and general public to note that our members are not in a position to conduct any academic activities while this ongoing action lasts,” it read.
