Landlords Son kills tenant
Arinze Omeh, a trader at Onitsha main market was allegedly stabbed to death by one Babangida Eluemuno at his house.
The victim who lived at, 9 Agba Street, Onitsha, Anambra state died after getting into a fight with the alleged killer over a broom.
Arinze’s brother Oluchukwu Omeh tells the story of what had ensued between his deceased teenage brother and Babangida, who happened to be their landlord’s son.
Oluchukwu said: “He wasn’t aware of any bad blood between the two until Babangida told the deceased that he didn’t want him using the broom meant for indoor cleaning, outside.”
Oluchukwu recounts that he got home that day from the market with his now deceased younger brother.
While they sat in the compound resting and discussing some business and family issues, Babangida walked up to them to frantically warn the deceased not to use the broom designated to sweeping the compound for the rooms.
Arinze Omeh, responded reminding Babangida that he had mentioned this to him in the morning and that there was no point mentioning it again because he had heard him the first time.
Babangida who looked really upset gripped Arinze and started to beat him up. The elder brother, Oluchukwu ran to rescue his brother and Babangida used a broken bottle to slash his wrist.
This action was the beginning of the fight that eventually led to Arinze Omeh’s death. Oluchukwu says “He used a broken bottle and without hesitation stabbed me on the left wrist.
Whilst they were still trying to control the blood, the landlord’s son again without hesitation took out a knife from his tricycle that had broken down.”
The actions of Babaginda made Arinze angrier and he charged for him, giving him a well-aimed slap. This was when the suspect went to get the knife he used in stabbing Arinze to death.
Oluchukwu says he hurriedly ran and hired a tricycle which he used to take his brother to a hospital. They got to the general hospital and the hospital rejected his deceased brother, for reasons they said were complicated.
The tragic incident is currently under investigation and Babangida Eluemuno has been arrested. This has been confirmed by Haruna Mohammed, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state’s police.
