Lagos State First Lady, Joke sanwo-olu has condemned rape in the state.
The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide sanwo-olu made her stance on rape known in a post on social media with a picture alongside the wife of deputy governor, ministry of women affairs and poverty alleviation, among others.
The women were holding placards with the write-ups, “leave me alone means no”, “rape is a crime”, “we say no to sexual violence” and “say no to domestic violence”.
The first lady spoke out after the recent turn of events happening in the country with regards to girls being raped and sexually molested.
We at everyevery talked about the case of the 22-year-old Uwaila omozuwa who was brutally raped and murdered in a church in benin. Other cases have been reported in oyo state, ekiti state amongst others.
The first lady said on her tweet, “For us in Lagos State, we have zero tolerance for rape because it is nothing but a bestial act. It is a heinous and abhorrent crime that must be collectively stamped out of our society.
We must all say #NoToRape, #NoToSexualViolence and #NoToDomesticViolence.
“Together with Wife of Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and all relevant agencies of Lagos state, we say #NoToRape, #NotInOurState and #NotInOurCountry.”
There has been an outpouring of reports of various sexual assault and rape in the past week, with many calling for stricter punishments to be enforced by the courts.
