Kotoka International Airport is an international airport in Accra, the capital of Ghana. It is a public and military airport operated by the Ghana Airports Company Limited. The airport serves as the hub for the airline Africa World Airlines. It is also a base for domestic operators, Passion Air and Unity Air. It is the only International Airport in Ghana.
The airport was originally a military airport used by the British Royal Air Force during World War II. It was handed over to civilian authorities after the war. The airport was originally named Accra International Airport before it was renamed Kotoka International Airport in 1969. It was named in honor of Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka (1926-1967). Kotoka was a member of the National Liberation who was killed in an abortive coup attempt which is now the forecourt of the airport.
FACILITY
The airport consists of two passenger terminals named Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 2 serves only domestic flights, while Terminal 3 serves regional, international, and long-haul operators. Terminal 1 is presently no longer in use but will be redeveloped into a Fixed-based-operator.
The runway’s direction is 03/21. The length is 11,165 in ft., 3,403 in meters. The runway is surface dressed with asphalt.

The Cargo airlines and their destinations include Cargolux (Luxembourg), DHL Aviation (Abidjan, Lagos), Emirates Sky Cargo (Dubai- Al Maktoum), Ethiopian Airlines Cargo (Lagos, Addis Ababa, and Liege), Qatar Airways Cargo (Lagos, Doha, Brussels, and London-Stansted), Air Ghana (Abidjan, Lagos, and Lome), and Turkish Airlines Cargo (Maastricht, Aachen, and Istanbul-Ataturk).
