Kogi Government Justifies Imposition of Tax On Bread

The Kogi State government has justified the recent imposition of tax on Bread production in the state.

According to the State Commissioner for information, Kingsley Fanwo, the tax is to protect local producers in Kogi.

Fanwo revealed this while reacting to the backlashes that greeted the news that the state government has placed a levy on every loaf of bread in the state.

The Commissioner noted that indigenous producers need to be protected from those who bring in truckloads of bread from other states into Kogi for sale.

Furthermore, he explained that the new level is also part of government efforts to protect the economy of the state.

Fanwo stated accused some bakers outside the State of bringing their bread to the State without paying any form of levy.

The Commissioner added that indigenous bakers in the state have complained bitterly about the activities of external bakers.

However, Fanwo assured that master bakers in the state, as well as consumers, have nothing to fear.

He said the state government will continue to dialogue with the relevant stakeholders.
