The spokesperson of the Imo state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, has confirmed the abduction of the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Moses Chikwe, and his driver.
Ikeokwu said the state commissioner of police, has ordered the Quick Intervention Team and Anti-Kidnapping Unit to rescue the Bishop and arrest his abductors.
It was gathered that Bishop Chikwe and his driver were traveling when their vehicle was attacked by the suspected kidnappers along the World Bank, Umuguma road before he was abducted alongside his driver.
However, his car was later dropped at the Assumpta Cathedral. Before he was appointed an Auxillary bishop by Pope Francis, Bishop Chikwe was the Director of Education of the Archdiocese.
You will recall that some suspected kidnappers recently abducted a Cleric, Apostle Emmanuel Bako along with his wife, Cindy, and one other person in the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
According to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna, Samuel Aruwan, Bako, who is also the Chairman of the Pentecost Fellowship of Nigeria in the State was kidnapped on Christmas Day.
Aruwan explained that unidentified gunmen attacked the Albarka Praying Camp along the Afana-Fadan Kagoma-Kwoi Road and started shooting sporadically.
It was gathered that in the process of the sporadic shooting, a vehicle was hit by a bullet while Bako, his wife, and the other victim were taken away from the camp ( read more here).
