After a tumultuous 2018 of rape lawsuits and child-support slacking, R. Kelly might be turning a new leaf. In recent months, R. Kelly has gone through multiple jail scares and may be trying to avoid another one soon. He has now paid up his child-support fees for June and July in advance.
R. Kelly’s famous name has been dragged through the mud recently when multiple accusations surfaced that he had sexually abused minors in the course of his music career. These cases add to the fact that he has had not been keeping up with his child support duties. Fast forward to May 2019 and R. Kelly is trying hard to clear up his mess by fulfilling his baby-father duties two months in advance.
Kelly’s family attorney, Lisa Damico, appeared in Chicago court Tuesday afternoon and paid $41,666 to cover June and July’s child support payments to his ex-wife, Drea Kelly.
As for the $32k Kelly still owes in interest on back child support, no decision was made in court; but Johnson says they don’t plan on paying anyway. He stated in afterwards that;
At no point in the foreseen future do we see paying interest of child support. As of May 14, 2019 Mr. Kelly is current on support payments.Darrell Johnson – Crisis Manager for R. Kelly
So far, since January 2009, R. Kelly has been responsible for $20,833 per month. And he recently appeared in court to pay up some $62,000 for back child support in order to avoid a jail term.
Paying up child support is the least of R. Kelly’s woes though. He still has a whooping 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving underage girls to deal with. Now he can focus on that.
