Kaduna State Throws Bombshell into State University

The Kaduna State government has literally thrown a bombshell into its university after announcing a mind-blowing hike in its tuition fee.

It was more than a shock when news rent the air about the state government’s resolve to increase the school fees of non-indigenous students from N24,000 and N26,000 to N150,000 and N500,000.

In defence of the increase, the Public Relations Officer of the Institution, Adamu Bargo, stated that the move was in the students’ interest and the university.

He stressed that it was in a bid to increase the annual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the school, noting that the current IGR is N765.9million.

Meanwhile, a former President of the Kaduna State Students’ Union, Abdulrazak Shuaibu, threw more light on the hike while speaking with journalists.

According to him, students in the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences were to pay N150,000 from N26,000, while students from the Faculty of Medicine were to pay N300,000 for indigene students and N500,000 for non-indigene students as against N24,000.

This development has caused many bitter reactions on social media, just as the students have rejected the move. They have refused to agree that the government is taking this step to create a conducive environment for them, as claimed.
