Italian star players Jorginho and Emerson made history in their club’s Super Cup win against Villarreal on Wednesday in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The two teams played out a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes of football time. They went into a penalty shootout which ended in favour of Chelsea as they played 6-5 on penalties to land their first Super Cup title since 1998.
Following the win, the two Italians, Jorginho and Emerson, are the first players in football history to win the UEFA Champions League, European Championship and Super Cup in the same year. Both players were among the Italian team that won the Euro 2020, which Italy won.
Further breaking the record, Jorginho is the only player that has played in every final. The player came in during the second half and converted one of Chelsea’sChelsea’s spot-kick while Emerson was an unused substitute. Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through Hakim Ziyech before Gerard Moreno equalised for Villarreal.
The game dragged on without both sides finding the winner, which was eventually settled via penalty shootout. Kepa Arrizabalaga emerged as the hero for the England team as he made two saves to land Chelsea’sChelsea’s second UEFA Super Cup title.”
