You may have come across episodes of Key and Peele on the internet while searching for Game of Thrones or The Vampire diaries. You probably wondered what the show was all about. Key and Peele was a 20minute comedy show that aired on comedy central. It was hosted by two Comedians/actors; Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele. The show involved a series of short sketches with a little side commentary by the presenters running for five(5) seasons.
For the ones who were lucky to have seen some episodes of the show, you may have been impressed by the acting chops and versatility of both comedians especially Jordan Peele(the shorter one). Peele is able to blend effortlessly into different roles in different episodes. His goofiness is what made him sell these role perfectly.
Mr. Peele in an interview with Playboy magazine categorically showed interest in directing more serious projects. He said “I’ve been spending the first half of my career focusing on comedy, but my goal, in all honesty, is to write and direct horror movies”.
Then in 2016, when i heard he was making a horror movie, my initial reaction was “What”? While you’re at it, why not ask Michael Bay to direct “Knocked up 2”. I thought they were going to follow in the footsteps of those Scary movie parody films and make a splice between comedy and horror. Notwithstanding, 2017 came, Get out “got in” theatres and I was stunned. Jordan Peele kept aside the funny man persona and brought something very different to audiences worldwide. The film got an early February 2017 release and made an impression with critics and film watchers all around the world. He made history by bagging four oscar nominations and becoming the first black man to be nominated for directing, writing, and Best Picture honors all in the same year.
Jordan Peele didn’t slow down, 2019 has been busy and is going to be a even busier year for him as he actually signed up for a number of other projects. His latest film is “Us”. A film starring Winston Duke and Lupita that shows a vacationing family being haunted by their doppelgangers. The movie works as a downright chilling horror film for casual film watchers and a political commentary about America for people who love dissect the metaphorical meaning message behind a fine.
At the post-premiere Q&A at SXSW Peele said the film is fundamentally about America’s misplaced fear of outsiders. “This movie is about this country,” he said. “We’re in a time where we fear the other, whether it’s the mysterious invader that we think is going to come and kill us and take our jobs, or the faction we don’t live near, who voted a different way than us.
We’re all about pointing the finger. And I wanted to suggest that maybe the monster we really need to look at has our face. Maybe the evil, it’s us This type of genius talk would make ask yourself, is this that same “High on Potnus” guy?
Peele’s most recent project is Twilight Zone. an American anthology web TV series. This would be the fourth attempt at a revival of one of the shows in the 1960’s. He serves as a producer on the show while narrating the episodes. IMDb.com describes Twilight zone as “An updated version of the classic TV series featuring various tales of science fiction, horror and mystery”.
