Former Chelsea and Stoke City Super Eagles star player John Obi Mikel is now a free agent after Al Kuwait SC terminated his contract. The club, based in Kuwait City, confirmed the information in a statement on their Instagram page.
The club posted that they have parted ways with the former Nigeria captain but could not state the actual reason for the separation with the player. The statement reads: “Termination of the contract of the Nigerian John Obi Mikel.” John Obi Mikel joined Kuwait in the off-season after leaving Stoke City and he had 12 months left on his contract, having penned a one-year deal that was supposed to keep him at the club for the 2021-22 season.
Mikel has now left the Brigadiers without featuring in the Premier League. Their new season is set to kick off on November 21, with the team playing at home in the opening fixture against al Yarmouk at Kuwait Sports Club.
