Why Job Searchers, Knowledge Seekers, Recommend Linkedin to Internet Users

Many Twitter users woke up Monday morning to find Linkedin trending and discovered that most of its patronisers were suggesting and reinventing the platform as the best for job searchers and knowledge seekers, including contact sourcing of prominent societal figures.

Everyevery.ng took time out to survey multiple tweets to ascertain why users suddenly picked interest in Linkedin trend after years of existence.

However, other resourceful platforms mentioned even ahead of Linkedin did not create the reason for the trend.

One of the recent reasons for recommending the site was because of a new advert by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the referrals to Linkedin they placed on their platform for Nigerian electorates to confirm their Continuous Voters Registration, CVR status to know if their cards are ready.

Funny how another reason the platform started trending is possibly the major source of the discussion, Big Brother Naija reality TV show housemate – Bella, for saying she had no idea what the platform stands for, and started receiving criticisms from others in BBNaija Season 7 level 1 mates.

Dr Dipo Awojide, using the handle @OgbeniDipo, as a verified personality, simply tweeted, “Take Linkedin Seriously.”

He later posted another content, instructing Nigerian graduates to Spend 3 hours on the platform every weekend, adding that there are millions of jobs on it, including remote ones. 

He said if job seekers apply for the available roles on the site, their stories might change forever!

Awojide further implored internet surfers to expend their data to connect with the right people on the opportunity-providing site.

He charged users to follow people who share relatable tips and hints on how to advance their careers or stay ahead of the game.

“Follow people who inspire you to pursue your personal and professional development goals. Ignore the fluff and superficial stuff.” He concluded.

Another verified Twitter user named D O C T O U R, with the handle @wakawaka_doctor, hinted at some ideas on sourcing for the best available employment opportunities using the same platform.

According to his post, he advised social media enthusiasts to use some of the following tricks to navigate through:

• ATS score checker, a site that tells you the percentage of your Curriculum Vitae, CV, whether it is impressive or discouraging, which he said an 80% score is encouraging. This serves as a Jobscan Tool.

• Work with Keywords: The good doctor further encouraged internet users to keep CVs as simple as possible, using particular Search Engine Optimizations, SEOs.

• Skills & Certification: According to him, this aspect encompasses- Academic Qualification- Internship & Voluntary Job- which adds to Work Experience for higher considerations among your pairs.

• Change Location on Linkedin Profile: The doctor lastly spoke on the need to switch one’s location when including your search on the platform to increase the chances of proximity to the desired job and applicant.

Similarly, in the case of BBnaija Bella that has no idea what Linkedin is or represents, an argument from @Kofoworola, though no source to back her claims and statistics, says that 90% of Nigerians don’t know what the site is all about.

On the contrary, a foreign Twitter user named David Caldwell with the handle- @roodave, spoke on how he doesn’t like the site that supposedly connects people for meaningful transactions.

He said the main reason he dislikes LinkedIn is its creation of what looks like natural consensus amongst professionals but is a “yes men” dynamic on steroids.

“Incentives align to silence dissent and criticism, however well justified. It runs contrary to democratic values.” He said, among other valid points that will be highlighted on the flip side of this discussion. Later.
