Javier Mascherano Retires From Football

Former Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has retired from football. The 36-year-old former Liverpool and Barcelona star player joined Estudiantes in his native Argentina where he finally retired.

He won two Champions League and five La Liga titles with Barcelona in his eight-years with the club. According to Javier Mascherano, he said: “I want to announce that today I am retiring from soccer professionally. I want to thank this club that gave me the opportunity to finish my career in Argentina.”

Mascherano made 147 appearances for Argentina and began his career at Argentine club River Plate. He played for West Ham United before joining Liverpool in 2007. He featured in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by AC Milan.

Mascherano played for Barcelona from 2010 to 2018 before a spell with Chinese club Hebei China Fortune.
