Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to growing criticism following her promotional appearance in a Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria video, declaring she is willing to collaborate with any political party committed to Nigeria’s progress regardless of past political affiliations.
The controversy began after the actress appeared in a promotional clip highlighting what she described as improvements at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. The video, shared online, showed her commending developments at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while expressing pride in the country’s infrastructure progress.
Posting the clip herself, Ojo wrote that the aviation authority was “changing for the better in so many ways,” adding that she felt proud of Nigeria. However, the message quickly triggered mixed reactions, largely because of her previously known political stance during the 2023 general election, when she openly supported Peter Obi and was critical of the administration led by Bola Tinubu.
Amid speculation online, FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, dismissed claims that Ojo had secured any contract with the authority or had been appointed as an official ambassador. The clarification sought to counter suggestions that the promotional video was politically motivated or financially driven.
Addressing the backlash directly, Ojo insisted she received no payment for the video and acted purely out of goodwill. She described herself as “unapologetic,” emphasizing that her intention was to promote positive developments in Nigeria rather than advance any political agenda.
In a detailed Instagram statement, the actress said she would continue using her platform to highlight progress whenever she sees it. She added that national development should transcend political divisions and that she is open to working with any party focused on building a better future for the country.
Her remarks come at a time of heightened political sensitivity, particularly amid ongoing reports that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Tinubu, has been involved in mobilising celebrities and influencers for political support initiatives.
Despite the ongoing debate, Ojo maintains that her position is rooted in patriotism rather than politics, urging Nigerians to focus on collective progress instead of partisan divides.
