IPOB Speaks on Death of INEC Official

IPOB, which stands for Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has spoken on the recent attack and killing of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC official in Imo State.

Yesterday, the group made its position known to the government by condemning the act and denied any involvement with the incident that centres more on the recurrent acts of violence and terrorism plaguing the region.

IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, made this position known in a press statement issued after the incident happened yesterday in the state.

He declared that IPOB has no hand in the incident and spoke against both the killing and abduction and the disruption of the registration process which led to the commission suspending their electoral activities in the aforementioned Local Government Area, LGA in Imo State.

Recall that gunmen on Thursday had shot dead an INEC staff at Nkwo Ihitte, Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State.

Earlier, everyevery.ng reported that INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the victim, Nwokorie Anthony, was shot dead during a Continuous Voter Registration, CVR exercise at Nkwo Ihitte (PU 004), Amakohia Ward (RA 02) in the area.
