Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Staff, Nwokorie Anthony, has been reportedly killed by some unidentified armed men who stormed the Nkwo Ihitte (PU 004) in Amakohia Ward (RA 02) of Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area, LGA of Imo State.
He was shot dead yesterday, which led the commission to suspend the Continuous Voter Registration CVR exercise in the previously mentioned local government.
According to Festus Okoye, the spokesperson of INEC, who made this known to Journalists in the area, revealed that the deceased staff was part of the Adhoc team registering members of the community for the 2023 general elections.
It was during the registration exercise that the unfortunate incident occurred that led to Anthony losing his life at the at the registration location.
Meanwhile, two other staff of the commission have also gone missing as it was alleged that they were abducted by the gunmen after their raid of the registration centre.
He said security operatives have commenced their search in and around the area to recover the missing officials, although as at the time of filing this report, no sign of their whereabouts.
For the fear of insecurity, Nigeria electoral umpire had earlier suspended the CVR exercise in Orsu and Njaba, two of the LGAs in Imo State.
