INEC Office Burnt Down by Political Thugs

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office is currently on fire following the activities of some political thugs reportedly sponsored to disrupt pre-election activities in Ogun State.

The incident happened at Iyana, Abeokuta, the capital of the state, where reports revealed that hoodlums numbering up to eight, stormed the premises of the Electoral Commission to set it ablaze.

Their mission was successful owing to the collapsed structures and burnt valuable assets as a result of the fire.

For now, no estimation has been posted by the authorities regarding the worth of property destroyed and election pieces of equipment damaged during the incident.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Niyi Ijalaye, said it happened around 1:00 am on Thursday.

He revealed that no lives were lost, but immense damage was done to their facilities, and it took the intervention of the fire service to contain the fire.

While estimations are being conducted to ascertain the level of damage on the property, the security operatives commenced investigations to find the culprits.
