INEC Establishes Contact with 2 Missing Officials

Finally, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, successfully spoke with its officials that went missing after the tragic incident that led to the death of one of its staff during the Continuous Voters Registration, CVR exercise in Imo State.

It was reported yesterday that two of the commission’s staff vanished after the attack and were nowhere to be found as some unidentified gunmen raided Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area, LGA of the State.

Remember that the armed men who invaded the commission’s registration center in the local government area shot a staff dead and disrupted the registration activities.

INEC said on Friday in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, that it has made contact with the missing staff members and that they would soon rejoin their families.

“The Commission has now established contact with two of our staff missing after yesterday’s attack in Ihitte Uboma. They are safe and will soon be reunited with their families.” He said.
