Imo State 18 mobile police force has been accused of launching a deadly attack on men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to the extent that they were shot at during the violent encounter.

According to the Commandant of the NSCDC in the State, Michael Ogar, the police officers beat him up and went further to detain him after they stormed their premises to carry out the outrageous act.

Ogar further alleged that the policemen damaged his official vehicle as well and made away with his phones in the Monday evening violent attack on the NSCDC Headquarters cited in Owerri, ImoState.

Narrating the ugly incident, the Commandant said that an officer named Nonso Ezenwanne, hindered his convoy from navigating through Owerri road recently while returning from the scene of the illegal refinery explosion at a Forest in the Abaezi community, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of the state where 110 people were killed.

“As though, that wasn’t enough, he trailed us to Owerri and blocked my motorcade again and brought out a pistol threatening to shoot us but he was later disarmed and arrested,” Ogar said.

the civil defence officers succeeded in detaining the outraged policeman for claiming to be a policeman, but was found with multiple identification cards found on him.

Later, after the arrest, he noted that on his way to see MOPOL 18 commander, just about 10 meters away from NSCDC office, he revealed that eight vehicles blocked him and started shooting sporadically, even targeted his car.

He said, “They dragged me out, flogged and battered me, and later took me to their command where they continued to beat me with sticks and baton.”
