A storm of controversy has erupted online after Nollywood actor Tayo Amokade, popularly known as Ijebu, publicly called for the arrest of content creator King Mitchy following her alleged suicide attempt during a TikTok live session.
The incident, which quickly spread across social media, reportedly involved King Mitchy consuming a substance identified as hypo a household cleaning product in what was described as an attempt to end her life. The development came amid an ongoing public dispute between her and controversial online personality VeryDarkMan.
In the aftermath, King Mitchy’s management team claimed she allegedly took the drastic step due to sustained online attacks from VeryDarkMan and his supporters. The episode triggered widespread debate, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the growing trend of suicide-related content appearing on social media platforms.
Reacting strongly, Ijebu released a video on Instagram urging law enforcement authorities to take action. Addressing officers responsible for monitoring online activities, he expressed worry about the influence such incidents could have on young users, particularly teenagers between the ages of 10 and 21 who have access to social media.
The actor questioned how a common household product used for cleaning could be publicly portrayed as a means of self-harm. He argued that online personalities with significant followings should serve as role models rather than set harmful examples.
Ijebu further appealed to the police to consider arresting individuals who attempt suicide publicly online, stating that such actions could normalize dangerous behavior among impressionable viewers.
The incident has intensified discussions about mental health awareness, online responsibility, and the regulation of harmful content on digital platforms. As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from law enforcement authorities regarding Ijebu’s call for arrest or any investigation into the incident.
