The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Muhammed Adamu has announced the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS and ordered that all officers serving within the unit are to be redeployed with immediate effect.
The IGP said an investigation will be conducted into the activities of SARS with the collaboration of civil societies organisation while identified culprits within the force will be punished.
Meanwhile, Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in a tweet said both President Muhammadu Buhari and Osinbajo have asked the IGP to ensure police is accountable to the people.
Buhari also stated that there must be justice in all violation instances adding that Nigerians have a right to peaceful protest. In the meantime, the Presidency has called for calm.
