Lawyer Says Hushpuppi Not Yet Released
Suspected internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Huhspuppi has hired a top criminal defence attorney in Chicago.
It was gathered that Hushpuppi hired a senior partner at Chicago law firm Pissetzky and Berliner, Gal Pissetzky to help extricate him from multi-million dollar fraud charges levelled against him by American authorities.
Documents showed that Pissetzky made the first appearance on behalf of Hushpuppi at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on Monday, July 6.
According to his firm’s website, Pissetzky is widely recognised by major American media outlets as a legal consultant on serious criminal matters.
However, court hearings have commenced for Hushpuppi to be removed from Chicago to Los Angeles where he was indicted on June 25.
Also, Hushpuppi’s legal team has successfully argued for an adjournment of his removal hearing from July 7 to July 13.
The removal process appeared to have made it difficult for Mr Abbas to enter a plea, several days after he and his gang members were extradited to America.
There are indications that Mr Pissetzky would counsel Hushpuppi through the removal process in Chicago, but it was unclear whether or not he would follow the suspect to Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the attorney was not available for comments when PREMIUM TIMES reached his office on Tuesday.
You will recall that Hushpuppi, was arrested alongside some of his gang members following an overnight raid of his apartments in Dubai on June 10.
According to Emirati police and prosecutors, about N16 billion was found in cash out of an estimated N168 billion online scams linked to his gang.
