How To Prevent Malware From Infecting Your Computer #1

Share

Malware, or malicious software, is any program or file that is harmful to a computer user. Types of malware can include computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses and spyware. The worst thing that happen with your computer is it getting infected with malware. Your computer starts slowing down or unusual behavior, it might not be a virus but some sort of malware.

The worst culprits are the hijackers-malware programs that take over your browser, or worse yet, your computer. You would have to remove these types of evil programs from your personal computers and work computers.

Here are some tips to prevent malware from infecting your hardware

1. Install Anti-Virus/Malware Software

There are some computers that may not have anti-virus protection. This protection is a must-hav first step in keeping your computer virus free.

2. Keep Your Anti-Virus Software Up To Date

Having a protection software is good and a first step; maintaining it is another step. Free anti-virus software is better than nothing, but that may not be the best solution. Microsoft does provide a security package for “free.” It’s free in that if you have Windows on your machine, you are granted access, but you did pay for your Windows license. Many users aren’t aware of this program, but it’s actually decent protection.

3. Scan Your Computer With Your Anti-Virus Software

Having anti-virus software is a no brainer, but even I am guilty of forgetting to scan my computer from time to time. So, set reminders on your phone at least once a week to scan for any malware.

It is annoying waiting for the scan to go through. So the best option is to do the scanning at night when you have no work to do. Scan through the computer properly. Set your anti-virus software to run specifically at night, and always leave it running on that day. At regular intervals check to see it doesn’t shut down or hibernate.

There are a lot more ways to protect your computer. So stay current and make sure you check back in next week for the other ways to protect your computers.
