Undoubtedly, death is a debt owed by everyone, but almost every human wish to live long to enjoy the fruit of their hardwork in good health; however, no one has the authority over when they will take their last breath.
Most definitely, veteran Nigerian singer Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, came, saw and conquered, though he had to give up the ghost at the young age of 44.
Cause of Sound Sultan’s Death
The family of the Nigerian singer revealed the cause of his death. In a press statement released by Dr Kayode Fasasi, the family confirmed that the singer died after a long battle with throat cancer, the cancer is also known as Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.
According to the statement, the Multitalented veteran singer died on July 11, 2021. Earlier, EveryEvery.ng had reported that the singer battled throat cancer in the United States of America, where he observed chemotherapy after being diagnosed (read more here).
Details Of Sultan’s Last Phone Call
As reactions continued to trail the singer’s death, the details of his conversation with a famous On-Air Personality, Steve Onu, also known as Yaw, has surfaced on the internet.
In his conversation with the OAP, he admitted that God has a plan for him, adding that he followed what God had for him. Meanwhile, the late singer revealed that Doctors told him he was responding well to treatment while in the hospital before finally giving up the ghost.
Sultan Predicted Own Death
Like a Prophet, Sound Sultan had on July 3, precisely seven days to when he died, posted the video of a Patoranking song that literarily connotes that people celebrate him while alive and don’t wait until he passes on. The post was the last he made on the social media platform before his death.
In the song titled “Celebrate Me”, Patoranking talked about how some people are fond of celebrating others only in death; the singer noted that he prefers to be celebrated alive rather than people pouring tribute on his death.
Reacting to his death, many Nigerian singers, rappers, actors, among other celebrities, described the demise of Sound Sultan as shocking, unfortunate and painful.
Taking to his Instagram page, Seun Kuti described Sultan as a singer whose talent is still unmatched. Meanwhile, Nollywood actress Funke Akindele Bello, Comedian, Basketmouth, Bovi, AY, described the sudden death of Sound Sultan as heartbreaking.
The singer has been buried in New Jersey, America in line with Islamic rite. He is survived by 3 children, a wife and siblings.
