A few weeks after the Nigerian government declared him wanted, security operatives have reportedly arrested Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

EveryEvery.ng gathered that the security operatives in the Benin Republic arrested Igboho at an airport in Cotonou about three weeks after the Department of State Services, DSS accused him of stockpiling arms and ammunition in his Ibadan residence.

According to a source, the security operatives arrested Sunday Igboho when he tried to travel to Germany on Monday night. There are indications that Igboho would be repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday.

You will recall that Ọba Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, has revealed the reason for the silence of the Yoruba Monarchs in the face of Sunday Igboho’s ordeals in the hands of the federal government.

Oluwo said Igboho had abused some respected traditional rulers that could easily defend him against external attacks.

The Monarch, who explained the reasons for the silence of Yoruba Monarchs over the raid of Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, said many of the Kings were in support of the Yoruba activist’s agitation against the killer herdsmen.

However, Oluwo noted that Igboho ignored some of the warnings issued by the Yoruba Kings, adding that they cautioned him about the manner he was agitating for the Yoruba Nation, but he failed to adjust.

According to Oluwo, Igboho and other agitators of the Yoruba Nation did not consult adequately with Yoruba monarchs. He opined that the fight for the Yoruba Nation could not be productive without the inputs of the traditional rulers.

Meanwhile, the Monarch stated that the federal government could not fold its hands and allow anyone to repeat what happened during EndSARS. He stressed the need for negotiation and dialogue in the face of making demands from the government.
