How legacies is different from the Vampire diaries franchise

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

When series creator Julie Plec created Vampire Diaries in 2009; I’m sure she didn’t expect that it would lead to not one but two spin offs. Although, she had once mentioned in an interview that she would love to own a supernatural boarding school. Her dreams came true in 2018 through the fictional world of “Legacies”.

Legacies is a spin-off of The Originals, which was also a spin off of The Vampire Diaries. The show premiered 25th October 2018.  It kick-started off with a time jump, two years after the conclusion of  The Originals.  The first episodes focused on introducing us to all the main and secondary characters; and the setting of the show, which is a supernatural boarding school. The main character is Hope Mikaelson, who is the tribid daughter of Hyrbid Klaus Mikaelson (R.I.P?)

– Let’s get into it

However, it came under huge criticism from CW fans worldwide for not staying true to the source material. The horrible and amateurish CGI special effects, and the mythical creatures are inconsistent with ” The Originals” mythology we are familiar with. And even from it’s parent shows, seriously? A dragon? Other critics have also bashed the show by describing the backdrop as being a cross between Harry Potter’s hogwarts(a school for witches and wizards) and the Xavier’s school for mutants in the ” X-Men”.

The only two redeemable factor of this show is the occasional nostalgic feel we come close to getting in few episodes whenever there are easter eggs or cameos by other vampire diaries actors(Alaric Saltzman). Also, the good looking teenagers in the school. They are what seems to be holding the shows weak plot together.

The problem is that the bar has been set pretty high with The Vampire Diaries; and The Originals which was aimed at an adult audience. However, CW fans feel like they are being slapped in the face with “another teen drama series”.
