Manchester United has completed the signing of Netherlands 23-year-old international Donny Van de Beek from Ajax, the young talent who has been sensational in the Uefa Champions League scoring goals against Tottenham, Juventus and Chelsea. The player is said to have cost United £35m, which is a very good price for the player. The questions people have been asking now is if the player is actually needed at Manchester United with all the players United already have especially in his position the midfield role.
Manchester United have Bruno Fernandes who has won about three players of the month award in the English Premier League since joining the side in January. Also in the midfield is France superstar Paul Pogba who has been very effective in the team too, another player in the midfield is Fred also Scott Mctominay with Serbian star Matic, so now can Van de Beek be able to surpass one of the five midfielders and make his mark in the club.
Van de Beek is a very talented player no doubt but can he replicate his success at Ajax in the English Premier League? Manchester United ended last season in fine form and played a fairly straight 4-3-3, with key January signing Bruno Fernandes tending to play ahead of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in midfield. Could Van de Beek play alongside Pogba and Fernandes in a three?
A look at his stats from Ajax last season suggests he is much closer in style to Fernandes than he is to any of United’s other midfielders. Van de Beek played 175 first-team games for Ajax and he scored 41 goals and helped his team make a surprise run to the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals. Speaking on his signing the player said: “I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history.” “I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United.”
He also said: “This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know that I can learn from them and also bring my own strengths to the group.” “Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that.”View more on Twitter
