Suspected herdsmen have reportedly invaded a farm settlement at Oha village in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State and killed a farmer.
The victim identified as Dele Olowoniyi was found dead with machete cuts in his neck and other parts of his body.
Sources revealed that the deceased was attacked in Imeko village with cutlass around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday.
A relative of Olowoniyi, who pleaded anonymity confirmed that the suspected herders came with gun shooting indiscriminately to scare people away.
According to the source, the herdsmen left Oha village and proceeded to Iwoye Ketu in the same area where they carried out a similar attack.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the killing but said he was unsure whether herdsmen carried it out.
Oyeyemi said the Ogun State police command had initiated investigations to determine whether the suspects are Fulani herdsmen or not.
Earlier, the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, revealed that his administration had deployed a joint security task force to Imeko, Aiyetoro, Ipokia and other border communities along the Nigeria/Benin Republic border.
Abiodun said the deployment is to forestall a repeat of the recent, fatal farmer-herder clashes in the Yewa axis.
However, Abiodun vowed that his Government would not tolerate anything that threatens the security of lives and property in the state.
